I am afraid that the best book on the idea of the university is The University in Ruins (Harvard University Press, 1996) by the late Bill Readings. You can ask around and see how highly acclaimed the book is, well, at least among English, Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies professors. None of the books written in Chinese on this topic ever touch on the reality and ecology of the academic culture in the age of accountability.
